Yes, a pleasant day yesterday...I tend to avoid the Loop because of an aversion to overcrowding; but midweek is great for the Loop, plenty of space and spots for playing and coaching. Aka Robin the Cartwheel King or Mr GruntWheel ?!
s dear paddlers I had to sell both my AQIIs (Only owned one at a time). But was paddling one until 1996. The Kobers gave up in '95 after 5 years and the only paddles I've had since with such longevity are the Lightnings I bought in '98. t South Wales rivers in flood - many roads closed - failed to reach the Usk get-in from Abergavenny this morning - road closed at many places - checked out the Grwyne - higher than I've ever seen it - at 2 on the upper gauge. Thought about paddling it, took some interesting photos and chickened out and went home for a bacon butty! (Send you the photos later Mark) I reckon we learn as much as we can about ALL the rivers and play it by ear....flexibility is the key, me thinks :rollin https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/ud4tolssx0d3e9isy.html I] What was wrong with it??? https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/052vmc4qic6ltn8i9.html u s Graham...levels must have dropped overnight...Dave F went off to do the lower Tavy today but found the upper section to now be at a sensible level, and did that. is it "illegal" for me to click on that link then??? https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/9hbf88o9nmzuxemak.html Might be a good idea to compare my lad to someone like shaun baker tho..... im shure thers better though https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/r8n3lggtoho2jh8l1.html afon gwyryd https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/ac29y4xz9eiycllux.html Same as Mick - carry it in my dry bag 'just in case' but most of the time there's no signal. u https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/uxvxos6czmf98luiq.html In accordance with our child protection policy we will not permit photographs, video or other images of young people to be taken without the consent of the parents/carers and children. https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/iwutj8iwzvchzrrmd.html

s The new pictures of the Grwyne posted up are interesting. When were they taken and did anybody run it that day? There are a few pictures taken of the measuring weir that show the stopper totally washed out! That must have been very high!! https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/lpedo9g0nlruxsrgw.html So there's an idea for one of Mark's surveys - do you roll with eyes open or closed? https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/wgl2xlnegraqivb3x.html s The the bow keeps subbing out then you've had too many pies or your seat is too far forward. Mick, I,m not a course provider but A1 assessor and because of previous status (old scheme) can assess 4 star open and kayak, none planed though........if something comes about I'll let you know. I usually paddle in the Lakes but went to North Wales to buy a new boat this weekend. Now when we're in the Lakes we're lucky if we see another car with boats on top but an afternoon in Wales meant that we counted around 40 other paddlers on one stretch of road (the A5). s https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/3ljhh0836ahpnhdfx.html That's better - but some people still have some work to do :P Staying in Exeter this w/e. Did the Upper Dart today, on foot. Water running through the trees and path washed out. Might find some way of ending up on the Loop tomorrow; the wave just down from Newbridge looked very, very nice. Bit worried about the trees but hear all features have turned into waves rather than stoppers - hey, I know you've all done it at floood levels but I haven't! https://vih.dk/sites/vih.local/files/webform/f3vj4k2jfx86ynhda.html
Take my advice, buy a boat that does all the moves with or without you! My old Acrobat used to pull 360s and cartwheels all the time with me swimming alongside shouting encouragement. Then I moved up to a H2Zone and I frequently get to stay in the boat while it plays on its own. The important thing to remember about being crap at playboating is that when you pull the odd cartwheel while getting trashed look as though you meant it to happen! I think you are suggesting a river leader award and an associated coaching scheme. What would you include in the silly-bus?
